Students tried to sink each others battleship by using good form to knock down the other teams bowling pins. The ship was sunk once all the pins were down. The last ship with a bowling pin standing won the battle. The balls were the cannons; the scooters were the lifeboats. The lifeboats job was to collect the cannons and bring them to back to their battleship. If they stepped off their ship, they needed to do ABC push ups or 10 push ups to return.

The younger students practiced their throwing skills by having a snowball fight! They took turns standing behind the fort:)
I like to start out our throwing unit by setting up different stations. This allows me to assess the students form and help them if they need it:) They practiced throwing different weight and size balls at the different stations and distances as well as playing games while hitting targets.
For our soccer unit we learned many things: 1) we can foot dribble using soft touches on the inside of our foot. 2) we can receive a pass by turning our foot sideways. 3) we can perform a soccer throw in by keeping our feet planted and elbows back. 4) we can tell you what the words offense and defense mean. 5) we can practice our leaping so that we could use our instep kick to score goals. 6) we can pass the ball with the inside of our foot. 7) we use our tricep muscle for throw ins 8) we use our quads for kicking. We were able to play a lot of games to reinforce these skills. Ask your child(ren) about dribble freeze tag, clean your room, Pinball, line soccer, the animal game, dribbling/trapping/scoring goals with a shark in the middle????
Thanksgiving was a good time for me to find out how much your child/ren know about the five food groups. We learned that the protein in turkey helps our muscle to be strong. For more information on the the five food groups click on the link below We played a game of Please Pass the Turkey for our warm up game. If the students got tagged they froze and yelled "Please Pass the Turkey". Whoever had the turkey would come and pass it to them; they would of course say "thank you" and then they would go and give it to someone else. Manners Matter:) Another activity that allowed the students to practice their dodging and fleeing skills was the Turkeys and the Farmers. The students were the turkeys trying to steal the food from the farmers. The farmers were the taggers. If the turkey's got tagged they would have to go and stand on a dinner plate (the circles on the ground). Another turkey could save them by getting to them without being tagged. The turkey's were safe as long as they were standing in their turkey pen.
We began our running challenge. Ask your child(ren) if they were able to complete the challenge? From now on, each day we have a challenge we will gradually increase our minutes. Congratulations to Mrs. Beach's class, they were ALL able to complete the challenge=)
Here is a fun way to get in a good workout. If the students were tagged they would go to a house and say "trick or treat". They could choose to go to the Ab house, Tricep House, Squat House, or Push Up house. The home owner would give them the dice and they would roll to see how many of the exercises they must complete before returning back in the game.
This week we had some fun learning how to cooperate during a relay race. There were ghost hidden under cones at the opposite side of the gym. The students took turns trying to find a ghost . We were able to incorporate locomotor skills, scooters and even got to play in the dark using flashlights. Eeeeek:) |
